#Competition

To celebrate the new school year, GPonline.com is offering one lucky GP the chance to win a Dell Inspiron Duo, the latest innovative laptop/tablet hybrid, worth 450.

#Blogs

UK academic @ijgreener was recommended by @drjohnbye for his blog backing GPs.

He concludes: 'In all, let?s try and remember to be grateful for our GPs. Most of them are pretty good. They do a tough job under difficult circumstances, and it?s about to get harder again through the introduction of commissioning groups. GPs have flaws, but so do we all. Before you assume a GP is out to get you, or doing a bad job, I think you have to try and see the world a little from their own, very human, eyes.'

@ProfAlanMaynard is typically uncompromising about the need for coalition government intervention on obesity.

He blogs: 'The government of course is into ?voluntary? codes, best known as fiddling whilst Rome burns. This sounds so familiar, and can be seen in its policies about other mortality and morbidity-inducing products such as alcohol (where minimum pricing is needed, such as the Scots/SNP have sought to implement) and tobacco. Can?t they see that such codes generally fail, and have to be replaced by efficient regulation?'

#Conferences

GP is organising two conferences next month in London. Find out how changes to NHS pensions will affect you on 15 September and about maximising your potential as a locum GP on 27 September.
