Hundreds of health professionals and patients were expected to gather at the Homerton Hospital in Hackney to speak out against the NHS reforms. Shadow health minister Diane Abbott and mayor of Hackney Jules Pipe will also be speaking at the event.
Hackney GP Dr Adam Forman said the event was being held in response to the Health Bill, which was now being ?rushed through Parliament?.
He warned that the NHS reforms would expose the NHS to ?exploitation by big commercial healthcare companies?, putting local hospitals at risk.
?Showing solidarity with the Homerton Hospital sends an unequivocal message to the government that their current plans for the health service threaten to undermine our local and national health services and must be scrapped,? he said.
Hackney GP Dr Jonathon Tomlinson will also warn that patient care will suffer as a result of the cuts in the NHS during his speech at the event.
He said the cuts to Homerton hospital and the wider NHS have not been planned in a rational way or looked at the health needs of the local population.
?If you don?t plan carefully about how and why you are making cuts patients are going to suffer as a result,? he said.
The protest, which has been organised by the Hackney Coalition to the Save the NHS, will take place at 12 noon on Saturday 16 July at the Homerton Hospital.
