The Royal Surrey County Hospital has suspended a doctor after concerns were raised about how children with epilepsy were being treated.
The hospital has informed parents there will be a review of Dr Nic Driver's methods going back nine years.
A letter sent to parents seen by BBC Surrey says: "We realise this might be distressing news and would like to apologise for any anxiety caused."
It says independent experts will look back at Dr Driver's cases since 2002.
The hospital will be releasing more details at a news conference later.
