NHS London launches website making GP outcomes data public

By Abi Rimmer, 08 December 2011

The site will show how practices have performed against a set of outcome standards developed by NHS London and Londonwide LMCs.

On the www.myhealth.london.nhs.uk website each practice will have its own webpage which will show how the practice has performed against the 22 outcome standards.

The standards, which include immunisation uptake and identification of prevalence for various conditions, were developed with the help of doctors, nurses, GP staff, NHS managers and the public.

GPs were given the opportunity to validate the data before it was published. It will be refreshed in the new year to reflect the latest reporting periods.

The webpage will allow practices to showcase their work and keep the public informed of clinics and services, as well as enabling patients to provide feedback.

Patient groups can also get involved by providing information about support groups and services which can be publicised on the webpages. Practices which already have websites can create a link to the page.

In some cases local patient groups can be given special editing permissions by GP practices to post information on their pages so they can help in keeping this data up to date and relevant for the needs of the community.

Dr Phil Koczan, a GP at the Churchill medical practice in Chingford, Essex, said: ?Healthcare needs vary widely across London and these individual accessible pages provide a way for practices to illustrate their particular successes and challenges, learn from each other and respond to local issues raised by patients. London is listening to Londoners and solving its issues in a proactive way.?

Launching the initiative the mayor of London, Boris Johnson said: ?I welcome efforts by GPs in the capital to improve dialogue with their patients - freeing up data, as we have done in other areas already, will enable Londoners to properly consider the options available and what works best for them.'
